DEV--Student requests & forms

Download the Student Request form or get a copy at Student Academic Services.

Use the Student Request form for any of the situations described below.

We review student requests on a case by case basis. We only make exceptions to the academic regulations under extenuating circumstances. Sometimes requests are referred to the Student Request Committee.

When you make your request

You must complete and sign student request forms and bring them to Student Academic Services. You must also include the following:

  • Reason for request
  • Current copy of your student record
  • Supporting documentation that validate the request

For new students

Newly-admitted students may be entitled to transfer credits or exemptions at Concordia University. See the complete instructions on the Transfer Credit Exemption form.

Current students

External Credit: Within Quebec

Students who wish to take courses at other recognized institutions in Quebec and want those credits transferred to Concordia University must receive prior permission by using the Interuniversity Agreement (INTU) form from the Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ).

Credits and grades received are transferred to the student's Concordia record once an official transcript is received from the host institution. This application is only available online.

Go to the Authorization to Transfer Credit online form on the CREPUQ website.

External Credit: Outside Quebec

Before you take the course

Students who wish to take courses outside the Province of Quebec and have those credits transferred to their program must receive prior permission.

  1. Complete a Student Request Form
  2. Submit to SAS all relevant information on the course(s) and University they wish to attend ie:
    • accreditation information
    • credit value
    • course description

If the request is approved, the student will receive a permission letter from SAS.

After you take the course

Students must receive a minimum grade of C- in order to transfer back the credits to your program at Concordia.

Students’ grades for the courses taken outside Concordia will not be considered in the calculation of their GPA.

If the course students take doesn’t have the same number of credits as its equivalent course at Concordia University, the number of credits transferred back to their BEng program is the lower of the two equivalent courses. Students may need to take an extra elective course upon their return to make up the missing credits.

All requests must be made prior to registration at the host institution.

Note: The School does not guarantee that credits taken elsewhere will be transferred and counted toward their degree if the student did not receive prior permission.

In order to be eligible to take a course at another institution, students must be in good academic standing at Concordia University.

A course substitution is a request for a student to take a course that is not part of their program requirements instead of a course that is. This new course will be used to meet the student’s program requirement.

A student may repeat a failed course only once.

Refer to section 16.2.6: Repetition of Courses in the Undergraduate Calendar for more information.

Students must ensure they have successfully completed all prerequisites to a course before attempting to register for a course.

Refer to section 71.10.4: Registration Regulations, Prerequisites subsection for information about course prerequisites.

Full-time students* may take up to 33 credits during the regular session (fall and winter term combined) without permission.

Refer to section 71.10.4: Registration Regulations, #2 and #3 for more information about credit loads.

Full-time status is related the number of credits a student is registerd for in a given term. Refer to section 71.10.4: Registration Regulations for more information about credit loads.
