Concordia held strong in the Maclean’s University Rankings 2019, placing 10th in the comprehensive universities category for the fourth year in a row. The university also moved up one place in the social sciences and humanities grants category to claim the top spot.

Being recognized as number one among comprehensive universities in Canada for SSHRC grants is a major accomplishment, notes Graham Carr, provost and vice-president, Academic.

“This is further confirmation that our efforts to double our research continue to pay off — and it’s something in which we can take immense pride.”

Maclean’s also looks at 10 popular programs at universities across Canada. This year, Concordia ranked in five of those programs, with the university’s education programs advancing five places to number 10 and its business programs moving up a spot, to number 13.

Concordia’s programs are clearly a draw for students from around the world: the university now has the second highest percentage of international students at the graduate level of any university in Canada, at 54.9 per cent.

A boost in student satisfaction

Concordia also advanced in the student satisfaction rankings, jumping two spots to number eight and achieving higher rankings over last year in seven out of 10 categories.

Standouts include student ratings of residential living (up one spot to fourth place, marking the fourth consecutive year of trending upward) and experiential learning (also up a spot for the third year running to claim fourth place).

“The Grey Nuns Residence is a great space for students to build a vibrant community — and it’s wonderful to know that our students appreciate what this iconic building has to offer," Carr says.

“It’s also a point of pride that we’re more and more seen as a university that offers students novel learning opportunities outside the classroom.”

The university is throwing open its doors for Open House on Saturday, October 20. It’s a chance for prospective students to learn about the university’s programs, admissions requirements and life on campus.
