A workshop exploring the evolution, creative possibilities, and interdisciplinary potential of the visual essay. The session examines the visual essay’s hybrid and contentious nature, its role in visual scholarship, and its possibilities for post-disciplinary inquiry. Participants will look at the development of the form, review deconstructed visual essay experiments from Argentina and Mexico, and take part in hands-on activities demonstrating how visual essays work as intercultural and interdisciplinary tools. Attendees are invited to bring photographs and a proposed topic as we consider ethical implications and experiment with “the study of the visual and the study through the visual."
