There are several scholarships, awards and bursaries specifically available to undergraduate students studying Economics. These opportunities recognize academic excellence, financial need and engagement within the field.

This non-renewable scholarship was established in 2011 in memory of former faculty member of Concordia University, Dr. Balvir Singh and his wife Ranjna who were, along with their three children Shobhna, Shalini and Abhinav, among the hundreds of victims tragically killed in the bombing of Air India flight 182 on June 23 1985. 

The Balvir and Rana Singh Memorial Scholarship In Economics are intended to encourage academic excellence among students in the University's Department of Economics, where Dr. Singh taught as a full professor for many years. In an interview with The Montreal Gazette in the days following the tragedy, those who knew Dr. Singh best praised him as an extraordinary economist and a devoted family man.

The Nadya and Robert Soldera Bursary was established in 2014. This bursary was made possible thanks to the generosity of alumnus Robert Soldera and his wife Nadya Soldera. Mr. Soldera received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1992. He is an accomplished businessman in the construction and property management industry. His goal in establishing this non-renewable bursary is to encourage students pursuing an Undergraduate degree in Economics at Concordia University.

The Nichola Dyer Co-Op Award was established in 2014 by Nichola Dyer, BA '85. Concordia University and its Institute for Co-Operative Education were instrumental in Nichola's professional development and with this award, she hopes to provide a current Economics Co-Op student with similar opportunities.

This award is part of the Undergraduate In-Course Bursary Program. The bursary committee reviews candidates and selects recipients each year.

  • Eligibility: Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students. Candidates for this non-renewable scholarship must be in their second year of studies or higher. 
  • Program: BA students in a Humanities or Social Sciences department
  • This scholarship was established in 2009 through the generosity of Sophia Economides. The John N. and Sophia Economides Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences will be awarded annually on the basis of academic excellence to a full-time student who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program in any of the selected areas of study within the Humanities or Social Sciences sectors.

    This non-renewable scholarship was established in 1984 to honour Dr. John W. O’Brien, the first Rector of Concordia University, for his contribution to Sir George Williams University and Concordia University.

    The Bobby Piazza Award was established in 2016 to provide support to a student in the Economics program, as a Major, Specialization or Honors. The Award provides financial support to a student either going on an internship or the Coop Program, and who will be working for a non-for-profit, government or NGO organization; open to full-time students only.

    Endowment Dr. Balbir Sahni created in November 2016. The Balbir Sahni Outstanding International Awards in Economics was established by the generosity of Professor Emeritus Balbir Sahni to recognize and award the top graduating international students from the Department of Economics. This award funds a cash award and medal at convocation to an international BA, MA or PhD Economics student with the highest GPA. This scholarship excludes BComm students.
