Computer & media labs - open use

Concordia offers a wide range of computing resources, electronic, and media-related equipment to the academic community.The labs on this page are open for use by all Concordia students and do not require a reservation or access code.
If you would like to reserve a lab, please visit our teaching use page. The labs on that page may be reserved for academic or work-related purposes.

Please contact your particular department for more information about their departmental labs.

There is no cost associated with this service.

How to get it

Active students, employees, and faculty have access to the open use labs with their Concordia netname without reservation.

Hours of availability are posted on the "Hours" page of the Libraries website.
Note: Concordia ID cards are required in order to enter the Webster Library and the Vanier Library between 11pm and 7am - hours are subject to change.

Hardware:
The Webster Library offers several hundred wired computer workstations as well as a fleet of wireless laptops and iPads available for loan.
An example configuration:
Intel Core i5-2400 3.1GHz Quad Core, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD, DVD±RW, NVIDIA Quadro 600/1GB, eSATA, Windows 7 Enterprise.PC’s (Portal Login Capability)

FAQ

1. Food and drink are strictly prohibited.
2. Phone calls should not be answered in the lab.
3. Users must treat the equipment with respect, and be conscious of the students around them.

To access the computer, you must log in using your Concordia netname and password.

Only licensed software can be installed on University computers.  

While other software may be present, there is a standard software package installed on PC workstations in classroomsopen-use labs, and teaching labs.

This package includes:

  • Microsoft Office 2010 (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access)
  • SPSS, Mathematica, Maple
  • 7zip
  • FastStone Image Viewer
  • FireFox, Internet Explorer, Chrome
  • Sentinel One Anti-Virus
  • iTunes, Quicktime
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Flash plugin, Java plugin, Microsoft Silverlight plugin
  • VLC Player

The 'open use' labs cannot be reserved. For a list of labs that can be reserved, take a look through the labs available for teaching use.
