Faculty Council
Faculty Council is the legislative body responsible for good governance of academic affairs within the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science.
Its membership represents the School’s academic units, undergraduate and graduate student associations, the Office of the Dean and other senior academic administrators. Council also invites participation from representatives of designated administrative units and University bodies.

Role and responsibilities
Faculty Council makes recommendations on academic matters to Senate. Its responsibilities cover three main areas:
Academic curricula and programs: Overseeing their development.
Academic regulations: Monitoring compliance by overseeing the handling of student requests, making recommendations regarding graduation and degree conferrals and recommending or granting awards and titles.
Reports and recommendations: Requesting and considering reports on the academic affairs of the School and the University and making recommendations to Senate and other University bodies based on its deliberations.
Council’s role is distinct from, but complements, the administrative and governance functions of the Office of the Dean. The Office of the Dean sets academic priorities within the School and manages the School in accordance with collective agreements and other University policies.
When setting academic policies for the School, Council must follow Senate’s criteria and guidelines. It may also seek Senate authorization to implement more stringent policies or requirements within the School.
