Roles & responsibilities
- Supervisor, Performance Production and Venues (SVPP): Coordinates scheduling and responds to information requests.
- Technical Coordinator – Lighting: Prepares and realizes all lighting needs; technical resource person.
- Technical Coordinator – Multimedia: Prepares and realizes all audio-visual needs.
- Stage Supervisor (Performance venue): Oversees technical and production elements; ensures compliance with health and safety standards and theatrical best practices.
- Stage Management Coach: Coordinates stage management across productions and public outcomes.
- Performance Production Assistant: Provides administrative and logistical support to the production team.
Policies & standard operating procedures
General department and shop rules
- Standard safety and behavior protocols are mandatory.
- No food or drink allowed in shops or venues; breaks must be taken elsewhere.
- Cellphone use is prohibited while working; brief breaks allowed with prior notice.
- Priority access is given to students working on Theatre projects.
Makeup kits
All performers in public performance projects must provide their own basic theatre make up kit before rehearsal. Recommended items include:
- Foundation, highlight, shadow, lipstick & liner
- Eyebrow pencil, setting powder
- Applicators, remover, sponges, brushes, powder puff, makeup bag
- Preferred brand suggestions: Ben Nye, Kryolan, and Mehron.

Props Storage (PS 245‑2)
- Photos of props are available online by appointment requests.
Before using prop firearms:
- Submit a detailed description and photos for approval.
- Escort by Campus Safety is required.
- Firearm must be secured, hidden from public view, and clearly marked with an orange tip.
- A detailed protocol document must be created in collaboration with Stage Management.
No projectile shooting props (even water pistols) are permitted.
Theatre Production Fees
Students pay a $25 fee per production‑related course to help cover consumables such as gels, cables, fabrics, wood, props, and tools.
Use of Department Van
Only university staff may drive the theatre department van due to insurance requirements.
- Stage managers maintain cue sheets, schedules, and rehearsal notes.
- They lead tech rehearsals, communicate with all production departments, and create show reports.
- Show reports include performance data, audience info, and equipment issues.
Dress rehearsals
- Rehearsals occur during class times, with additional scheduling for public performances.
- Invited professionals are expected to consider student academic commitments.
Technical & Dress rehearsals
- “Tech Week” usually occurs the week before opening night, with structured daily schedules.
- Rehearsals begin with a Safety Walk and a fire safety briefing.
- Water (in secure bottles) is the only backstage beverage permitted.
Participants typically include:
- Shop heads, designers and assistants
- Director and design supervisor
- Technical and stage management staff
- Stage managers provide performance run times and content advisories (e.g., special effects, language) to front‑of‑house.
- Program details and deadlines (e.g., credits, acknowledgements) are handled by stage management.
CUCCR collects and makes available materials and supplies from Concordia’s waste stream for creative reuse.
- Room bookings outside class require faculty/staff presence and must be arranged through production staff.
- Spaces must be left clean; no food/drink except secure water bottles.
- Personal belongings should be secured as spaces are shared and not monitored after hours.
Clealiness & safety
- The cast and Stage Management should make every effort to keep their rehearsal space tidy
- Food or drinks are not permitted in the rehearsal spaces or Theatre
- Water containers with secure tops are permitted
- Please remember that all of our spaces are “shared spaces” used for classes, rehearsals and performances. You must leave a room in the same clean and neat condition that you find it.
- Rehearsal spaces used for the productions and public outcomes are not for the exclusive use of the company.
- Stage Management should carefully follow all procedures regarding room and building lockup in all rehearsal and performance spaces.
Working in shops
Items to bring when working in scene or prop shops:
- Water bottle
- Work gloves
- Steel‑toe boots
- Concordia does not provide dedicated parking for visiting artists.
- On‑street parking and paid lots exist
- Public transit is recommended
- Injury or “near miss” incidents must be reported with a standardized form submitted within 24 hours.
- Emergencies on campus: dial 514‑848‑3717 or 911 off campus.
- Additional health support services (e.g., counseling, urgent care) are available through Campus Health Services and Concordia support offices.
- All valuables must be locked up. This should include all rehearsal props and costumes. All personal belongings should be removed at the end of each rehearsal period.
- All spaces should be treated as “insecure” for valuables and “potentially unsafe” after hours.
