"Engineering taught me how to analyse, solve problems and predict outcomes. That's why many CEOs have engineering and computer science backgrounds," said Charlie Kawwas.

Concordia grad Charlie Kawwas, BEng 93, MASc 99, PhD 07, offered a keynote on his remarkable success as part of the inaugural Gina Cody School Day on March 18.

Kawwas was also named Alumnus of the Year award — one of Concordia’s highest honours — by the Concordia University Alumni Association.

Some 180 participants tuned in to hear Kawwas discuss how his engineering degrees helped him rise to become the COO of Broadcom — a tech company in Silicon Valley valued at more than $189 billion.

The virtual discussion is captured in our video and was moderated by Nadia Bhuiyan, BEng 95, vice-provost of Partnerships and Experiential Learning at Concordia, with opening remarks by Mourad Debbabi, interim dean, Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science.

What’s more, our video features remarks from Gina Cody, MEng 81, PhD 89, benefactor of the Gina Cody School and Kim Fuller, BFA 96, former president of the Concordia University Alumni Association.
