This interactive session will give you an opportunity to explore the process of using a dataset to create a data visualization that communicates a story. By looking at and commenting on a few examples of data visualizations (graphs, maps, etc.), we will explore best practices of data visualization and discuss issues of bias and subjectivity in data storytelling. Through hands-on practice with widely used software, you will build confidence in working with data and interpreting data visualizations. No prior knowledge or experience is required.
Facilitators: David Somiah Clark, Lead, Immersive Technology and Alex Guindon, GIS and Data Librarian / GPE Librarian, Concordia University Library
