The SARC is excited to host a Week of Wellness and Self-Care from November 28-December 2. Part of supporting survivors and their allies in the community is through offering space and resources for self-care. We are collaborating with a variety of departments and organizations on campus to highlight the different offerings available to Concordia community members that encourage self-care to reduce stress and increase wellness. Knowing numbers of attendees helps us plan, so register if you can. However, drop ins are also welcome.
Safer Substance Use 101 with the Recovery and Wellness Community Centre
Most of the education that we receive regarding drugs and alcohol, especially when we’re young, can be summed up as “it’s bad, don’t do it,” but abstinence-only messaging doesn’t always work. People will continue to experiment with substances, and will often find themselves in riskier situations by trying to do so secretly. Well, we believe that if people are going to be using anyway, they should at least be informed!
In this harm-reduction focused workshop, we’ll discuss some of the ways we can reduce the risks that come along with using drugs and drinking alcohol. We’ll cover safer ways to consume, how to recognize the signs of overdose, and what to do when that happens.
This workshop is offered by the Recovery and Wellness Community Centre (RAWCC), a service for students in recovery, with lived experience of addiction, or who are just wanting to foster healthier relationships with alcohol and substance use.
