Speaker series
Connecting the Department of Sociology and Anthropology through research, discussion and shared ideas
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology hosts a monthly speaker series open to students, faculty, researchers and the broader public. The series has been running for close to 20 years, offering in-person and online events from September to April.
About the series
The Speaker Series was created to build community within the department and has become a regular occasion for faculty, students and researchers to discuss their work and engage with topics across sociology and anthropology. Showcasing research is also a central part of the series.
Events typically follow a one-hour presentation followed by a 30-minute Q&A. The series has also featured book launches, roundtable discussions and is continuously evolving to expand its formats.
Speakers include department faculty as well as invited researchers from other universities. Topics vary from year to year and are chosen to reflect the range of interests across both sociology and anthropology.
The lineup is announced at the start of the fall term.
Who should attend?
The series is primarily intended for members of the department, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff.
We also welcome visitors from other universities and members of the public.
