Description of position and responsibilities
The Research Assistant will support the Principal Investigator in conducting and organizing scholarly research for a SSHRC-funded project on African-diaspora encounters in the contemporary moment. The position will focus primarily on systematic literature searches, bibliographic management, critical review and synthesis of scholarly literature, and the preparation of research materials. The RA will be expected to work independently, maintain well-organized research records, and participate in regular meetings with the Principal Investigator.
Responsibilities
- Conduct systematic searches of scholarly literature across relevant academic databases;
- Collect, review, analyze, and organize scholarly literature relevant to the project;
- Develop and maintain a searchable annotated bibliography;
- Manage bibliographic references and research materials using RefWorks;
- Prepare concise written summaries and syntheses of relevant scholarship and theoretical debates;
- Participate in regular meetings with the Principal Investigator to discuss research progress and findings;
- Contribute to other research and dissemination activities related to the project, as required by the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Current enrolment in an MA program at Concordia University in Sociology, Anthropology, or a related field;
- Demonstrated academic interest in Black Studies, African Studies, Caribbean Studies, Feminist Studies, and/or diaspora studies;
- Strong academic research and literature-search skills;
- Strong academic writing and communication skills;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Ability to work independently and meet agreed-upon deadlines;
- Experience with RefWorks is an asset but not required.

Pay: $26.91/hour
