Women in Engineering – Career Launch Experience (WIE-CLE)

The Women in Engineering-Career Launch Experience is here to support women students from the Gina Cody School in building a successful and sustainable career in industry. Students will gain practical, professional work experience while leaders in industry share their expertise and show their commitment to ensuring all engineers can develop meaningful and sustainable careers. 

Benefits for students and employers

In addition to the expectations and benefits of a regular internship at the Institute for Cooperative Education, WIE-CLE offers students the opportunity to:

  • Be mentored by role models who offer real life coaching that will allow you to grow professionally with confidence

About each role

The role of mentors

  • Mentor the student’s emerging engineering career
  • Participate in activities or events promoting the roles of women in engineering
  • Open doors to experiences and people to further the student’s professional development
  • Ensure the student spends about 10% of her internship in WIE-CLE activities

The role of the internship supervisor

  • Oversee and coach the student’s daily tasks and internship goals

The role of the student intern

  • Develop their understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion including the challenges and barriers in their profession
  • Develop their professional network
  • Develop their leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Complete all Co-op, C.Edge or ACE internship-related requirements
  • Gain practical work experience in a field relevant to their program of study
