Work permits for international students

If you’re an international student planning to do co-op internships during your studies in Canada, the co-op work permit is essential in order to gain the valuable Canadian work experience that co-op offers.

Things to know:

  • Apply for your co-op work permit as soon as you receive your letter of support from the Institute. Processing times are extremely long, so it is essential to apply as early as possible. We recommend that you apply at least 6 months in advance.
  • Once you receive your permit, upload it to our portal Compass right away.
  • If you don’t have your work permit by the time internship postings open during your search term, you won’t be able to apply for positions.
