The John Molson MBA sits among the world's most sustainable
The John Molson MBA, offered by Concordia’s John Molson School of Business (JMSB), has placed 24th in the world in the 2019 Corporate Knights Better World MBA Ranking, moving up nine spots from its position last year.
The survey assesses MBA programs based on five sustainability-related indicators:
- Number of institutes and centres dedicated to sustainable development
- Percentage of core courses that integrate sustainable development
- Faculty research publications and citations on sustainable development themes
- Faculty gender diversity
- Faculty racial diversity
Corporate Knights added the diversity-based metrics in 2018 with the thinking that these can influence student perception of what leadership looks like. Business schools can model meaningful standards for more diverse corporate boards and management.
“A commitment to social accountability is a key part of the JMSB strategic plan,” says Anne-Marie Croteau, dean of the school.
“Responsibility is one of our core values and courses about responsible business are an important part of our curriculum. It is most satisfying to be recognized for that in this international ranking.”
The John Molson MBA program has risen in a number of recent international rankings. It placed first in Canada for return on investment according to the QS Global MBA Rankings 2020 and was ranked 91st in the world in The Economist’s latest Which MBA? survey. In this latter ranking, the John Molson MBA climbed three spots from the previous year and was the only Quebec-based program to be included.
In September, JMSB became the first business school ever to be “parity certified” by Women in Governance, a not-for-profit organization that supports women in their leadership development, career advancement and access to board seats across Canada.
The John Molson MBA uses case-based teaching to offer students a big-picture business education. Students learn to apply concepts in ethics and sustainability throughout the program, beginning with the core course, Responsible Manager (MBA 641).
