The term ‘popular music’ encompasses diverse genres and primarily targets younger audiences. Distributed through live performance, recordings, radio, and digital streams, popular music functions as a medium of mass culture. Although the juxtaposition of music and the visual arts suggests a conceptual division between auditory and visual modalities, these spheres frequently intersect in practice. Exploring diverse case studies, connected to a variety of art and social movements, this course examines contemporary relationships between sound and vision.
