Grab your frying pan and get ready for Concordia’s third annual Iron Chef competition. This year’s event takes place on Thursday, March 30, at the Buzz Dining Hall on the Loyola Campus, beginning at 2 p.m.

Last year, the Grey Nuns Residence squared off against the Loyola Residences and won. This time around, Concordia’s residence halls will join forces to take on Residence Life staff members.

The two groups must create winning menus with the provided ingredients revealed to them on competition day. Cell phones are allowed and each team has 40 minutes to complete their meals.

“We want to promote cooking and encourage would-be chefs, foodies or otherwise amateur culinarians to experience the intensity and excitement of working with food,” says event organizer and marketing manager of Aramark, Joey Morabito.

A panel of judges assesses each dish and the team with the highest total points wins a culinary-themed prize.

“It’ll be fun to watch. We encourage everyone to attend,” Morabito adds.

“You don’t have to be a professional chef to come up with great meals. If you’re passionate about cooking and you love food, you can create amazing things.”
