Concordia is playing host — and lending a hand — to a new cohort of students at Admissions Information Day on Saturday, February 15.

The annual event offers prospective Concordians the chance to learn what it’s like to study at the university, and to ask questions about its programs in person.

“One of the things that makes Concordia special is the personalized attention that we give to people, even though we’re a large institution,” says Matthew Stiegemeyer, director of student recruitment in Student and Enrolment Services. “We really strive to provide a one-on-one experience.”

Admissions Information Day is also an easy way for aspiring undergrads to ensure they hit the March 1 deadline. Admissions staff will be on hand at computer terminals in the atrium of the EV building (Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex) to help attendees submit their applications on site.

While students can apply online, Admissions Information Day provides them with specialized advice from Concordia experts.

“We run this event because applicants have last-minute questions,” says student recruitment coordinator Eric Goldner. “Sometimes they’re not sure what the admission requirements are, or what the difference is between a specialization and a major. These questions can be answered right on the spot.”

Moreover, not all undergraduate programs admit students solely on the basis of grades and application forms: for example, journalism candidates must write a letter of intent. Faculty representatives will be on hand to answer their questions.

Admissions Information Day also includes workshops — “How to Choose a Major,” and more — as well as campus tours. And the attendees will have a chance meet alums and current students, too.

Concordia’s Admissions Information Day takes place on Saturday, February 15 from 12 to 4 p.m. in the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated (EV) Complex (1515 Ste-Catherine St. W.) on the Sir George Williams Campus.

Portfolio Day: February 8

A week earlier, on Saturday, February 8, Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts is hosting a complementary info session in the same location. At Portfolio Day, faculty members and current students will provide prospective students with feedback about their work, and tips on how to put together a great portfolio for their university application.

The Faculty of Fine Arts’ Portfolio Day takes place on Saturday, February 8 from 12 to 4 p.m. in the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated (EV) Complex (1515 Ste. Catherine St. W.) on the Sir George Williams Campus. No need to register but please plan to arrive before 3 p.m.
