Our final Learning Community Showcase of this semester highlights two inspiring examples of how the university can nurture and uplift community-led healing practices, to expand the network of care practitioners and increase access to diverse healing modalities.

The Community Care Practitioners Training program is a collaborative effort between the Black Healing Centre and Dr. Lisa Ndejuru, affiliate professor at Concordia’s Applied Human Sciences department, to train Black healers in decolonial, anti-racist, and afro-positive approaches to holding space for people experiencing mental health challenges. The training focuses on finding the root causes of clients’ issues rather than just treating symptoms, emphasizing a holistic and preventative approach to mental health.

The Concordia Arts in Health Centre is an initiative of the Creative Arts Therapy program. It is based on a novel systemic model and includes an onsite clinic, two community satellite locations, and a variety of community partnerships. The centre offers graduate students in the creative arts therapies programs opportunities to gain hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment, while offering free, affirmative, inclusive, and accessible art, drama, music, and play therapy.

Register here or drop by if you are on campus.

Please note - this event is held in person, at the SHIFT space. If, for accessibility reasons, you are not able to join in person but would like to attend the event, please contact emma.harake@concordia.ca and we can work together to see if an alternative solution is possible. A week’s notice will give us the best chance of making something work.

SHIFT Learning Community Showcase On the first Tuesday of the month, come meet members of SHIFT’s Learning Community and learn more about the socially transformative initiatives they are leading. Bring your own lunch or come and snack on what we have here.
