The world is currently overwhelmed by plastic packaging, plastic products and, consequently, plastic waste. Unfortunately, a very small portion of this waste is recycled, and the remainder either goes to landfills, is used to generate energy or ends up elsewhere where it cannot be managed. In Canada, only 9% of plastic waste is recycled, but around 3 million tonnes of plastic are wasted every year.
What can be done in the public sphere to diminish environmental issues, such as plastic production and consumption? In this webinar, the possible public policies that can be adopted by a government will be explained and analyzed. We will show examples of different approaches to environmental policies and what Canada's stance is on the issue.
