Angles of Consequence seeks to hold those who impact the climate both positively and negatively accountable with performances with reflected sunlight. It uses approaches rooted in performance, activism, design, conceptual art, and open-source structures to support a creative tool for climate accountability. The Research Team of this SSHRC-funded project gathers to discuss their work and process thus far in anticipation of the season launch on May 1st. This session will be held in person at 4th Space but also available online.
Meghan Moe Beitiks (she/they) is Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre at Concordia Universia. They are an artist and designer working with associations and disassociations of culture/nature/structure.They will be hosting this panel in collaboration with several graduate and undergraduate students.
Finishing her final year in scenography, Zoe Heffring (she/her) (Undergraduate Research Assistant) is learning to build worlds and tell stories. Her work is based in design, music, writing and performance with a curiosity for how to make our time on earth a little more lovely.
In her third year of double majoring in Intermedia: Video and Performance Art, and Acting for the Theater, Alexia Maldonado Juarez (Research Assistant, she/they) seeks to create multidisciplinary works that honor and inspire her communities. Her work is based in performance, writing, visual and video art.
Milena Pereira is a dance and circus artist and currently a PhD student in the Humanities program at Concordia University and in the Performing Arts program at the University of Campinas, Brazil. She is interested in notions of virtuosity and how art can nuance and imagine the multitude of aspects of life experience.
Christine White (she/her) is currently finishing a master’s degree in Art Education at Concordia University and has received several awards and fellowships to support her social engaged art practice. She is also a research assistant on a few projects related to sustainability and social justice issues contextualised through the field of fine arts.
This event is brought to you by the Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability, the Loyola Sustainability Research Centre, and the Department of Design and Computation Arts in collaboration with 4TH SPACE, with the support of the Office of the Vice-President, Research, Innovation and Impact; the School of Community and Public Affairs and First Peoples Studies; the Science College; and the Departments of Communication Studies; Geography, Planning and Environment; and Political Science at Concordia University.
This event will contribute to the Sustainability in Research section of Concordia's Sustainability Action Plan by increasing the visibility of sustainability research at Concordia.
