We've been here and we will continue to be here! Join the Black Perspectives Office for a two-part series of Black history walking tours around Montreal with renowned guide Rito Joseph from Black Montreal Experience.

Are you curious about the long history of Montréal Black community and its significant impact on local and international culture? Join us on the tour and leave with a better understanding of the lived experiences, realities and contributions of Black Montrealers over the decades!

This second installment of our walking tour series will take place in Little Burgundy.

Little Burgundy is home to one of the richest and most historical Black communities in Montreal. Until the 1950s, Black men in Montreal worked for railway companies as porters and employees of sleeping cars leading to the settlement of black communities in the district due to its proximity to Windsor and Bonaventure train stations, the area between the Saint-Henri and Griffintown districts, and its proximity to the north of the Lachine Canal in the southwest of the city. Learn more about this community's long-established history of mobilization and resistance.

Please note that these walking tours take place in rain or shine so please come prepared accordingly. You may register for one tour, but we encourage you to check out and register for both tours!
