This seminar series is being organized to facilitate more training for Concordia Institute for Water, Energy and Sustainable Systems (CIWESS) students and to deepen their understanding of the socio-economic aspects related to the water, energy and sustainability sector.

Topics to be covered include:

  • What are the important questions? What are the roots of environmental degradation?
  • Discussions of at least four anti-nature tendencies in western monotheistic religions and their responses: dominion of nature, rejection of animism, wilderness and the concept of sacredness.
  • The basis of western philosophy and its approach to nature, as well as the roots of ecological deterioration.
  • Explanations of the main types of environmental ethics associated with common questions and reflections.
  • Emphasis on the development of advanced holistic approaches and the gradual extension of concerns of the earth charter.
