This seminar series is being organized to facilitate more training for Concordia Institute for Water, Energy and Sustainable Systems (CIWESS) students and to deepen their understanding of the socio-economic aspects related to the water, energy and sustainability sector.
Topics to be covered include:
What are the important questions? What are the roots of environmental degradation?
Discussions of at least four anti-nature tendencies in western monotheistic religions and their responses: dominion of nature, rejection of animism, wilderness and the concept of sacredness.
The basis of western philosophy and its approach to nature, as well as the roots of ecological deterioration.
Explanations of the main types of environmental ethics associated with common questions and reflections.
Emphasis on the development of advanced holistic approaches and the gradual extension of concerns of the earth charter.
