Position Description

The Centre for Continuing Education at Concordia University provides part-time employment to a range of subject-matter experts to teach in short-target courses and programs. Teaching tasks include the preparation of course and course plan, delivery of course, evaluating student performance and grading student work and grade submission. Instructors attend departmental meetings and attend professional development training activities related to the program.  

Course Description and Learning outcomes

This course is designed to equip learners with the skills needed to develop a total rewards strategy that aligns with organizational goals. The instructor will guide participants in exploring methods to establish compensation values for various employee categories and in designing both direct and indirect pay plans. Additionally, the course will emphasize creating total rewards structures that support employee attraction and engagement.


Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to

  • Formulate a total reward strategy (compensation and benefits) that aligns with organizational goals and strategy. 
  • Determine compensation values for different categories of employees, compliant with legal requirements and ensuring market competitiveness and internal equity. 
  • Design a total rewards structure that helps to attract, motivate, and engage employees. 
  • Adapt a total rewards structure taking into consideration the internal and external context. 

Qualifications and assets:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or equivalent.

Membership in a recognized HR professional order (e.g., l'Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés (CRHA/CRIA), Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR), or equivalent) is considered an asset.

Industry Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of recent, relevant human resource management experience in a medium or large-sized organization.

Professional responsibilities must have included the planning, design, and/or management of compensation and benefits programs (or equivalent experience).

Teaching Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience delivering training material, workshops, lectures, classroom teaching, mentoring, coaching, or equivalent.

Assets: Experience working and/or teaching in an online learning environment.
