Student accomplishments
Third-year kinesiology and clinical exercise physiology student Shaan Baig received a 2021 Forces AVENIR Award in the undergraduate Personality category, awarded to students who have distinguished themselves through a balance of academic, personal and social achievements.
Tristan Gosselin-Hane and Alexandre Lavoie, computer science and software engineering undergrads, were part of the Cubermitis team that topped the leaderboard at the CyberSCI national Capture-The-Flag cybersecurity competition in summer 2021.
Claire Staton, a BSc in honours cell and molecular biology and Co-op student, was awarded a Clarendon Scholarship to attend Oxford.
The John Molson Competition Committee and MBA Case Competition Committee successfully adapted to a virtual format, as the undergraduate and MBA teams enjoyed one of their best years for podium finishes and academic accolades.

Faculty honours
Heather Igloliorte, Concordia University Research Chair in Circumpolar Indigenous Arts (Tier 1), received the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Medal for her significant contributions in the field of arts and culture.
Nadia Myre, MFA 02, assistant professor of studio arts, won the 2021 Prix Louis-Comtois, which recognizes excellence in Montreal’s contemporary art scene.
John Molson executive-in-residence Louise Champoux- Paillé, co-director of the Barry F. Lorenzetti Centre for Women Entrepreneurship and Leadership, was awarded the Medal of the National Assembly of Quebec for her commitment to supporting women in leadership roles.
Jason Edward Lewis, professor of design and computation arts, Kathleen Vaughan, professor of art education, and Thanh Dang-Vu, professor of health, kinesiology and applied physiology, joined the ranks of the Royal Society of Canada.
Artist Deanna Bowen, assistant professor of intersectional, feminist and decolonial 2D and 4D image- making practices in the Department of Studio Arts, won the $50,000 annual Scotiabank Photography Award, which recognizes established artists and is the country’s largest photography prize.
The Chemical Institute of Canada added Gilles Peslherbe, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, physics and chemical and materials engineering, to its select list of fellows for his exceptional contributions to the chemical profession.
The International Association for Pattern Recognition awarded its 2020 King-Sun Fu Prize to Ching Yee Suen, professor of computer science and software engineering, for his pioneering research and contributions to handwriting recognition and document understanding.
