Capstone Sustainable Development Goals Award

The Capstone SDG Impact Award recognizes Capstone projects that have significant potential to address the issues facing society today, as outlined by the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) framework.

About the award

While supporting the sustainable development goals is the responsibility of all members of our society, engineers are in a unique position to make a significant and lasting impact to overcome current and future challenges. In order to promote this potential and honour our contribution, the Gina Cody School launched the Capstone SDG Impact Award in 2023.

Eligibility

All currently enrolled 4th-year students who are completing a Capstone project at the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science are eligible to apply.

Selection committee

The Associate Dean, Academic Programs, will appoint a judging panel composed of seasoned multidisciplinary experts to select the winning projects.

Evaluation criteria

The applications and presentations will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • The relationship between the UN SDG(s) and the project.
  • The potential of the project to meet the identified targets.
  • The feasibility of the project.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the SDGs.

Application process

Phase 1 Teams must complete the Capstone SDG Impact Award Application Form.
Phase 2
  • Up to 10 teams will be invited to present to the committee.
  • These teams will also receive a Gina Cody School SDG Impact Certificate and will be featured on the Gina Cody School website.
Phase 3

3 teams will be selected based on their presentations and will receive a monetary prize.

  • Tier 1: $1000
  • Tier 2: $750
  • Tier 3: $500
