Openings in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering
The University’s funds for Teaching Assistants (TAs) are intended to provide students with employment opportunities that will provide both financial support and professional development.
In order to be eligible for a TA appointment, a student must be:
- enrolled in a credited program in the same semester that they are applying for Teaching Assistant/Marker assignments
- a student in good academic standing at the University and not to have been found guilty of academic misconduct
To work as a TA, International students must have a valid study permit. Both Canadian and International students must have a Social Insurance Number (SIN).

TA appointments are awarded to qualified applicants. The basic requirements are technical knowledge and good communication skills as demonstrated by past experience and academic record.
Applicants are accepted from the following:
- Graduate students in a Masters or PhD Program
- Undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year of studies (achieving minimum A- grade in course to be taught)
Note: In the Gina Cody School, except special circumstances, the maximum number of TA hours a student can work is 20 hours per week and 280 hours per the winter term (subject to change).

Health & Safety, Security and Ethics Training
If you have not already done so in a past semester, you must successfully complete the one-time mandatory Health & Safety, Security and Ethics Training. Visit this site to register and please avoid using gmail e-mails for your notification e-mail.
You click on the Moodle - TA Orientation - Health & Safety, Security & Ethics Training and complete the form. The TA Orientation (Training) will appear in your moodle. You do the training on your own and you answer all the questions correctly in the 3 quizzes to be considered as successfully having completed the training.

If you are selected for a TA position, in August you will be notified by email of a formal “offer of employment”. You will be given five days to log into the Faculty Resource Information System (FRIS) as an employee to sign your workload form and your contract.
You must also be in contact with your professor the first week of classes to discuss the workload form. In particular, the TA markers should discuss with their course instructor and agree with the assigned duties and marking breakdown, in terms of hours, for each marking item.
Furthermore, TAs and Markers should log their hours each week during their contract period. Note that offers for marking assignments be after the DNE of Monday, January 26, 2026.
Students living in Canada must have:
- a social insurance number (SIN)
- a Canadian bank account
- a valid study permit and CAQ if an international student to sign a TA or marker contract.
- Tutorial Leaders meet with groups of students to present aspects of the course material. They prepare the material; answer questions; may hold office hours for individuals or group consultation; may be expected to attend classes or seminars; and may perform other duties as required.
- Laboratory Demonstrators are responsible for the preparation and presentation of laboratories associated with a course; for supervising and grading laboratory exams; and for grading laboratory reports. Laboratory Demonstrators may be expected to attend classes or seminars; to hold office hours for individual or group consultation; and may perform other duties as required.
- Programmer-on-Duty (POD) answers course related material from students; and may hold office hours for the students.
- Markers grade course submissions. They may have contact with students.
Application for fall 2025 teaching assistant positions

Thank you for your interest in part-time teaching with the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science.
The application period for summer 2026 courses opens from February 18, 2026, at 6 p.m. until March 10, 2026, at 6 p.m.
Canadian citizens, permanent residents, people who have an open work permit for the entire duration of the part-time contract, may apply to posted courses. First Nations, Métis and Inuit whose communities and ancestral territories are located in Canada are also encouraged to apply to posted courses.
Departments will be submitting their recommendations to the Dean's Office by March 27, 2026. Contracts for successful applicants will be issued on April 7, 2026. Applicants will need to sign their contracts by April 15, 2026.
Please note: Post Doctoral Fellows and graduate students who are currently enrolled at Concordia University are not eligible to apply to CUPFA posted courses.
Paper applications are no longer accepted. An online Academic and Professional Services Dossier is available. Preparing this electronic dossier is mandatory for new applicants, but for now remains optional, although strongly encouraged, for current CUPFA members. Since October 2019, contracts must be accepted electronically through the Faculty Resource Information System (FRIS).
