The Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science is ranked among the top ten engineering schools in Canada. The School is home to over 10,000 engineering and computer science students and a faculty complement of over 235 faculty members. 

Working at the Gina Cody School

The School has about 4,500 graduate students enrolled in 35 graduate programs. Its research profile continues to grow as it fosters multidisciplinary approaches to finding solutions to a broad range of societal challenges. Part-time faculty positions

Thank you for your interest in part-time teaching with the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science.

The application period for summer 2026 courses opens from February 18, 2026, at 6 p.m. until March 10, 2026, at 6 p.m.

Canadian citizens, permanent residents, people who have an open work permit for the entire duration of the part-time contract, may apply to posted courses. First Nations, Métis and Inuit whose communities and ancestral territories are located in Canada are also encouraged to apply to posted courses.

Departments will be submitting their recommendations to the Dean's Office by March 27, 2026. Contracts for successful applicants will be issued on April 7, 2026.  Applicants will need to sign their contracts by April 15, 2026.

Please note: Post Doctoral Fellows and graduate students who are currently enrolled at Concordia University are not eligible to apply to CUPFA posted courses.

Paper applications are no longer accepted. An online Academic and Professional Services Dossier is available. Preparing this electronic dossier is mandatory for new applicants, but for now remains optional, although strongly encouraged, for current CUPFA members. Since October 2019, contracts must be accepted electronically through the Faculty Resource Information System (FRIS).

Teaching assistantships (for students)

The University’s funds for Teaching Assistants (TAs) are intended to provide students with employment opportunities that will provide both financial support and professional development.

In order to be eligible for a TA appointment, a student must be:

  • enrolled in a credited program in the same semester that they are applying for Teaching Assistant/Marker assignments
  • a student in good academic standing at the University and not to have been found guilty of academic misconduct

To work as a TA, International students must have a valid study permit. Both Canadian and International students must have a Social Insurance Number (SIN).

International Students should refer to this Government of Canada's website for important information in regards to working while studying in Canada; or contact Concordia’s International Students Office.

TA appointments are awarded to qualified applicants. The basic requirements are technical knowledge and good communication skills as demonstrated by past experience and academic record.

Applicants are accepted from the following:

  • Graduate students in a Masters or PhD Program
  • Undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year of studies (achieving minimum A- grade in course to be taught)

Note: In the Gina Cody School, except special circumstances, the maximum number of TA hours a student can work is 20 hours per week and 280 hours per the full summer term (subject to change).

Please select work assignments that are of interest to you and that are scheduled at times when you are available.

Health & Safety, Security and Ethics Training

If you are offered a TA contract for summer 2026 and have not already completed the training in a previous term, you must complete the mandatory TA Orientation – Health & Safety, Security and Ethics training before the start date of your contract.

The training is available on Moodle and is completed independently.

You must successfully complete the three quizzes to finish the training.

If you are selected for a TA position, you will receive a formal offer of employment by email in April.

You will have five days to log into the Faculty Resource Information System (FRIS) to sign your workload form and contract.

At the start of the term

During the first week of classes, you must contact your professor to review the workload form. TA markers should confirm their assigned duties and the marking breakdown in hours for each evaluation item.

During your contract

Teaching assistants and markers must log their hours each week during the contract period.

Offers for marking assignments are issued after the summer add/drop deadlines.

Requirements to sign a contract

Students living in Canada must have:

  • a Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • a Canadian bank account

  • a valid study permit and CAQ (international students)

  • Tutorial Leaders meet with groups of students to present aspects of the course material. They prepare the material; answer questions; may hold office hours for individuals or group consultation; may be expected to attend classes or seminars; and may perform other duties as required.
  • Laboratory Demonstrators are responsible for the preparation and presentation of laboratories associated with a course; for supervising and grading laboratory exams; and for grading laboratory reports. Laboratory Demonstrators may be expected to attend classes or seminars; to hold office hours for individual or group consultation; and may perform other duties as required.
  • Programmer-on-Duty (POD) answers course related material from students; and may hold office hours for the students.
  • Markers grade course submissions. They may have contact with students.
