Marcel Dupuis will become Concordia’s interim vice-president of Advancement and External Relations as of July 6, 2018.

With nearly 30 years of fundraising experience and more than half of that in higher education, Dupuis is well-equipped to take on his new role. He has been associate vice-president of development since August 2014. He was previously director of development at the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University in Toronto.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Marcel over the past few years and he has been a great asset to Concordia in his role as associate vice-president,” says Concordia President Alan Shepard. “His skill and experience have been invaluable during the launch of our most ambitious fundraising appeal to date, the Campaign for Concordia.”

“It is a great honour for me to take on this new responsibility,” says Dupuis. “Bram has set the bar very high, yet I’m looking forward to picking up where he left off and continuing the great work we’ve been doing together.”

The office of the vice-president of Advancement and External Relations oversees fundraising and alumni stewardship activities for the university. In this role, Dupuis will also be responsible for overseeing the Office of Community Engagement. The initiative was implemented by Bram Freedman, outgoing vice-president of Advancement and External Relations, during his tenure.

“Leaving Concordia was a difficult decision for me, yet knowing that I’m leaving a highly competent and experienced team in the hands of Marcel makes it a bit easier,” says Freedman, who will become president and CEO of the Jewish General Hospital Foundation. “Marcel is a true professional and is highly effective. It has been a real joy working with him these past few years and I know he will thrive in his new position.”

Dupuis will be taking over during an exciting period for Concordia. With more than 48,000 students and 215,000 alumni, the university is seeing record enrollment across faculties. Much of this momentum can be attributed to the generous support from private donors.

“Concordia is experiencing a tremendous period of growth,” says Dupuis. “We recently launched the Campaign for Concordia. Next-Gen. Now, a bold fundraising initiative aimed at advancing our nine strategic directions, including to double our research. Our university is making waves in Canada and globally and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
