Trapped in a hotel as a blizzard whirls, six musicians are forced to confront themselves and each other.

This is the premise of Sextet, the latest work by award-winning playwright Morris Panych. Concordia grads can view the play and enjoy a cocktail reception at a Toronto geographic Alumni Chapter event on December 2.

“Very few people in Canada can match Panych’s accomplishments as a dramatist,” says Cass Simons, BComm 71, a member of the Concordia University Alumni Association Toronto chapter who helped organize the chapter's biannual theatre night.

The play by the two-time winner of the Governor General’s Award will be staged at the Tarragon Theatre. Founded in 1970, it’s considered a destination for contemporary drama in Canada, explains Simons.

“I’m very interested in theatre, and I’ve become the go-to for helping organize the theatre night,” says Simons, a Montreal-born John Molson School of Business graduate who worked over two decades as a recruiter for a financial services firm.

Don’t be deterred if you aren’t an avid theatregoer, says Simons, who notes: “There will be a wine and cheese to start with, and the opportunity to network.”

“I think it’s important to have a variety of different events each year,” he says of engaging Concordia graduates in Toronto. “It’s important for the alumni committee to try an get people involved.”
