A pair of recent national and international honours are placing Marc Gauthier’s leadership and long-term investment strategy in the spotlight.

At the fourth annual Canada West Institutional Forum on October 22, Markets Group — a global organizer of investment-industry forums that convenes institutional investors and asset manager worldwide — presented Gauthier, university treasurer and chief investment officer, with its Strategy Award. He is the first Canadian to receive the distinction.

The honour recognizes the uniqueness, innovation and resilience of the “CIO’s football playbook” — the investment framework Gauthier has developed and applied over many years. It acknowledges strategies that have proven effective in the current economy or have demonstrated strong performance over three, five and 10 years.

Gauthier also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Institutional Connect Awards on November 17. The recognition highlights the innovation and transformations he had led across both the Pension Plan for the Employees of Concordia University and the Concordia University Inter-Generational Fund.

The award acknowledges individuals who demonstrate sustained leadership and resiliency, motivate teams to achieve strong results and introduce practices that leave lasting benefits for their organizations and the broader industry.

Past recipients include Barbara Zvan, inaugural president and chief executive office of the University Pension Plan Ontario and former chief risk and strategy officer at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, and Robert Cultraro, former senior vice-president and chief investment and pension officer at Hydro One.

“Being recognized by your peers is humbling but having my team present both awards is priceless. None of this would have been possible without them,” Gauthier says. “I am fortunate to work with a group of people who feel like a second family and who strengthen our work every day.”

These recognitions follow his earlier nomination for Institutional Connect’s 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award and reflect the continuity of his contributions as Concordia advances a mission-driven, future-focused investment program.
