The John Molson School gets its AACSB International accreditation renewed for another five years

‘We have successfully met the highest-quality standards for business programs globally’

Concordia’s John Molson School of Business has successfully retained another five-year accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

For its favourable renewal, the John Molson School submitted a comprehensive and detailed continuous improvement report to the international business school accreditation body.

“The John Molson School has successfully met the highest-quality standards for business programs globally,” says Concordia President Graham Carr.

“We find ourselves in the company of the world’s most prestigious business schools, thanks to the commitment, engagement and energy of the school’s entire community — faculty, staff, students and alumni. To all of you, I extend my sincere congratulations on this significant achievement.”

The value of accreditation

Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the oldest accrediting body in the field of business education. Its mission is to foster engagement, accelerate innovation and amplify impact in business education.

AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide.

From over 16,000 business schools in the world, the AACSB accredited fewer than 970.

Institutions that earn accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review. This involves separate evaluations of each degree program to ensure they meet the top quality standards.

In 1997, John Molson became the first business school in Montreal, and only the fourth in Canada, to receive the endorsement. Effective June 28, 2022, this status will be maintained for another five years.

“Receiving the initial accreditation was a huge milestone for our school,” says Anne-Marie Croteau, dean of the John Molson School of Business.

“Consistently maintaining this accreditation, by regularly reassessing our programs and processes, tells us that our high research standards help us better understand the issues faced by organizations, and that at John Molson, we teach our students essential concepts that equip them to make positive social impact during their professional careers,” she says.

“This recognition is a great source of pride for us.”

John Molson School stands out

The AACSB places a great deal of value on a school’s societal impact. The peer review team that evaluated the school consists of deans from other accredited business schools. They were impressed with the framework developed by John Molson to capture societal impact measures that are aligned with the school’s strategic plan.

The team determined that the strengths of the John Molson School include the outstanding quality of programs offered to students at all levels. The programs consistently meet the needs of students and also the community.

The review team highlighted the success of the academic programs crafted to support, train and mentor students to compete at national and international business case competitions each year. Participation in these competitions is a key experiential learning component of their degrees.

The team’s report also emphasized the skills and quality of the research work carried out by faculty members.

Looking ahead

Continuous improvement is a core tenet of AACSB accreditation.

“While the efforts to improve are always ongoing, this reaccreditation is an affirmation that we are moving in the right direction,” notes Croteau.

“I wish to thank all John Molson community members for their steadfast hard work, which truly makes John Molson one of the best business schools in the world.”
