Dear Concordians,

Concordia is among the leading universities worldwide whose leaders have acknowledged the reality and impact of systemic racism and who have committed to take the necessary steps to create positive and lasting change.

The President’s Task Force on Anti-Black Racism has launched a university-wide consultation to better understand the community’s lived experiences of anti-Black racism at Concordia in order to better take action and address race-related issues.

The survey is open to all current and former students, faculty and staff and will inform the Task Force’s final report that will include a comprehensive set of recommendations and an action plan to combat systemic anti-Black racism across the university.

The Task Force’s final report will be presented to Concordia’s president by the provost and the Task Force chair in June 2022. The report will provide the foundation for the type of transformational change that community members have long demanded to remove institutional barriers for Black students, faculty and staff as they occur in teaching and learning, research, employment and promotion practices, services and supports and university policies.

In addition, the recommendations will outline the concrete steps that must be taken to guarantee the integration of Black knowledge and perspectives in curricula and educational tools.

Responses to the online survey are anonymous and will only be used to produce aggregate results that will not include identifying information.

The survey should only take 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The deadline to submit responses is Friday, November 12, 2021.

Should you have any questions, or if you find that sharing your experiences of racism is emotionally distressing, please do not hesitate to contact the Task Force at ptfabr@concordia.ca

Thank you for being part of the process to foster a more inclusive and respectful campus.
