How can computer science professor Tristan Glatard help neuroscientists share their data and collaborate more effectively? By co-designing the Canadian Open Neuroscience Platform (CONP) portal with colleagues from the neuroscience community and major institutions across Canada, such as McGill University, University of Toronto, and University of Western Ontario.

In a paper recently published in Nature's Scientific Data, Glatard and his colleagues introduce their portal as a tool that stands out from other data sharing platforms.

Firstly, the CONP portal specializes in serving the neuroscience community. The platform caters to this audience by focusing on neuroscience datasets and tools, maximizing usability and findability for researchers.

One of its key features is the decentralized data storage model, where institutions retain control over their local infrastructure data governance while providing researchers with direct access to valuable data through a centralized portal.

The CONP portal also addresses concerns about privacy and ethical considerations by offering a data sharing model that does not necessitate making all data public.

Tristan Glatard is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science. He is a Canada Research Chair (Tier II) and co-director and co-founder of Concordia’s Applied AI Institute. In 2022, Glatard was inducted to the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists by the Royal Society of Canada.
