Canadian Centre for Ecumenism

Our colleague, Dr. Adriana Bara, has been appointed Executive Director at the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism.

Prof. Martha (Matte) Downey (INDI Ph.D. candidate) has been awarded an FQRSC grant for her doctoral project entitled "The Third Yes: Invitationn, Response, and Radiance in Theo-drama."


Fonds québécois de recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC)

Dr. André Gagné received a large 2013-17 team research grant with five other scholars from the Univ Laval (CLARG / GRECAT) from the Fonds québécois de recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC).


Spiritual pilgrimage: “Travel for transformation” and "Number of Western pilgrims on the rise".

Two important articles on pilgrimages in The Gazette (Easter Weekend, 2013). Congratulations to our colleagues Dr. Matthew Anderson and Prof. Sara Terreault who are featured in the articles: 1) Spiritual pilgrimage: “Travel for transformation” and 2) Number of Western pilgrims on the rise.


"Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales" (EHESS)

Dr. Jean-Michel Roessli has been elected by the scientific committee of the "Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales" (EHESS) in Paris, France, as a "Directeur d'études invité" for three years in the broad interdisciplinary project on Historiography of Ecclesiology (IVth-XXIst c.) directed by the French medievalist Dominique Iogna-Prat. Dr. Roessli will be giving four lectures at the EHESS every year in May from 2014 to 2016. His first topic will focus on the ecclesiological debates in Europe during the modernist crisis (Harnack, Loisy, Duchesne, etc.).


BioLogos Foundation

Dr. Paul Allen has received a large research grant from the BioLogos Foundation for a project entitled "Creatures of God: An Evangelical-Catholic Dialogue on Sin, Evolution and Human Nature."


The State of Consecrated Life in Contemporary Canada

Dr. Jason Zuidema co-organized a colloquium on "The State of Consecrated Life in Contemporary Canada" (25-26 Jan. 2013, co-sponsored by SSHRC and our department).


3rd World Conference on Research Integrity

M.A. student Daniel Tesolin was selected to represent Concordia University at the 3rd World Conference on Research Integrity in Montreal. The objective is to attend the conference and share the findings with other graduate level students in a GradProSkills workshop. On the Dawson College side of things (where he works), he has recently been elected to the Dawson Research Ethics Board as an ethics specialist.


FQRSC

Costa Babalis and Jonathan Raddatz, two M.A. students, was each awarded $2000 from Dr. André Gagné's FQRSC joint research grant with ULaval (CLARG / GRECAT) for being in the last writing stages of their MA thesis ("bourse de fin de mémoire").

Prof. Sara Terreault and Dr. Matthew Anderson organize an information session for the upcoming "High Cross Tour of Ireland June 2013" on The Book of Kells (9 April 2013).


Concordia's Newsmakers of the Week

Congratulations to our colleagues, Rev. Dr. Raymond Lafontaine and Dr. Paul Allen for being named Concordia's Newsmakers of the Week on 11 March 2013 for their comments on the papal conclave and the election of Pope Francis I.


"Implicating Augustine: Human Nature, God and Governance"

Dr. Paul Allen co-organized the series entitled "Implicating Augustine: Human Nature, God and Governance". There were three lectures: 1) Dr. William Cavanaugh, "A Politics of Multiplicity: Augustine and Radical Democracy" (14 March 2013). 2) Dr. David Koyzis, "Justice and Love: Is Augustine Realistic Enough?" (28 Feb 2013). 3) Dr. Todd Breyfogle, "Augustine and the Principles of Political Order" (31 Jan. 2013).


“Benedict — Pope Emeritus, Pope Unknown: He might be one of the least understood public figures of our time”

Dr. Paul Allen published an opinion piece entitled “Benedict — Pope Emeritus, Pope Unknown: He might be one of the least understood public figures of our time” Montreal Gazette (28 February 2013).


Antonio Orbe, Introduction à la théologie des IIe et IIIe siècles

Dr. Jean-Michel Roessli contributed to the revision and updating of the French translation of Antonio Orbe, Introduction à la théologie des IIe et IIIe siècles, 2 vols (Paris: Le Cerf, 2012).


"The World of Symbols in Valentinian Gnosticism"

Dr. André Gagné co-organized a lecture by Einar Thomassen, "The World of Symbols in Valentinian Gnosticism" (7 Feb 2013).
