It is impossible to escape public speaking! Whether you are called to speak in front of audiences of two or two thousand, it is vital to develop this essential communication skill and effectively express yourself in all contexts. In this set of workshops – ideal for speakers at all levels – we will dispel common public speaking myths, provide useful tips on body language and tone, and help you to conquer your fears and meaningfully connect with your audiences in-person and online.

Part 2 of this Public Speaking series is all about the prepared speech. You will have the opportunity to practice your new skills in a supportive, safe, and fun atmosphere and receive immediate feedback.

Speakers at all levels are encouraged to attend.

In this session, we will cover:

  • Public speaking ideals of connection vs. perfection, managing fear, and the value of vulnerability
  • Tips to connect with your audience to effectively inform and inspire
  • Essential elements of public speaking structure, organization and delivery
  • Review of improvisational public speaking, with little or no preparation
  • Tips and practice time for presenting a prepared speech with feedback from the facilitator and your peers

Facilitator: Rosalia Felice, Senior Advisor, Professional and Corporate Education, School of Continuing Studies, McGill University
