Continuing with CICIEM Workshop Series, CICIEM - Centre for Innovation in Construction & Infrastructure Engineering & Management and AACEI Montréal (International Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering) hold a panel discussion on the topic of digitalization and digitization of the construction industry. Panelists from different sectors of the construction industry come together to discuss questions including:

- What is digitalization/digitization in construction?

- What are the lessons learned and best practices in digitalization of construction sites and project management?

- What is the Return on Investment of digitalization?

- What are the challenges, opportunities and needs (immediate and long term) for the digital transformation of construction projects and execution?

The event will include short presentations by the panelists, followed by an interactive moderated Q&A session after the presentations of the panelists.

Industry Panelists

Andy Hares is currently Hatch’s Global Director of Information Management and loves all things digital. Ever since his first experience with a Commodore 64 computer he’s had a lifelong fascination with the power of software and hardware to perform magic. After 20 years of employing digital tools to drive efficient delivery in the infrastructure, energy and mining sectors, very little has changed. With a mining engineering degree from Queen’s University in Canada, Andy is first and foremost a tunnel engineer with a broad range of experience earned in the U.S., South America, Europe and Canada. As a sponsor of Hatch’s Digital Transformation Andy is driving the adoption of information management in every aspect of delivery to complement and enhance the traditional role of engineering management. 

 

Dr. Mani Golparvar is the CTO and co-founder of Reconstruct. Dr. Golparvar is also Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology Entrepreneurship at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research on computer vision and construction management has led to Reconstruct, a Software-as-a-Service company that creates reality models from photos and 360 videos and integrates them with building information modeling (BIM) and project scheduling to visually track progress, analyze productivity, and proactively detect potential delays using predictive analytics; in turn empowering construction companies to keep their projects on schedule and on budget.

 

Darren Nelson is the CTO of AedoAI. Award-winning thought leader Darren is a recognized expert in advanced data analytics, advanced visualization, and is a pioneer in location analytics and enterprise integration strategies. He is passionate about creating marketable and effective software systems, and has founded several successful software companies. Darren brings over 20 years of experience in the architecture and deployment of enterprise-scale data collection and dissemination, business intelligence, and various other business systems to the Aedo team.
