Bethany Allen, an award-winning China reporter for Axios, has been covering China's role in the world for many years, focusing on how the country projects power and influence beyond its borders. In her new book, Beijing Rules: How China Weaponized Its Economy to Confront the World, Allen lays bare how the Chinese Communist Party leverages its dominant role in the global economy to coerce companies and governments to align with its political preferences and to expand its illiberal influence worldwide.

Join MIGS for a conversation with Bethany Allen to discuss her new book as well the Chinese government's disinformation and foreign interference campaigns.

About the speaker:

Before joining Axios, Bethany served as lead reporter for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists' China Cables project, a major leak of classified Chinese government documents revealing the inner workings of mass internment camps in Xinjiang. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times, Foreign Policy, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic.
