Co-founding member of co-op CultivAction and Funky Fungi program coordinator, nico schutte (they/them), will be facilitating a mushroom cultivation workshop at the Loyola campus (7075 Rue Terrebonne).
They will discuss the basic materials needed, how to DIY mason jars into liquid culture/grain spawn cultivation jars, and provide a hands-on learning experience of how to expand liquid culture into a nutrient broth for long-term growth and storage.
Attendees can expect to leave the workshop knowing the basics of mushroom cultivation, carrying their very own syringe of elm oyster liquid culture ($20 value if purchased through the co-op) to begin the first steps of growing mushrooms at home... Items to bring: note-taking materials.
nico will have additional mushroom syringes (varieties available: lions mane, shiitake, blue oyster, golden oyster and king oyster) available for sale for $20 per 10ml syringe, as well as modified mason jar lids for cultivation for $5 each. Place your order beforehand by emailing funkyfunginico@gmail.com or simply ask nico at the end of the workshop!
