This event will address the issues homeless communities face, especially in light of COVID-19 and instances of forced displacement. The objective is to raise awareness of the scope of homelessness in the city and inspire an open discussion on the integration potential for tent cities and informal settlements within Montreal’s physical and political landscapes.
We plan for this panel to present an opportunity to discuss alternative housing approaches, examine policies from other cities that have allowed for the coexistence of these informal settlements, and contemplate whether or not these would be viable options for Montreal. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative yet complementary, community-based approach to addressing Montreal’s homeless crisis and begin collectively imagining a more inclusive future.
