His one piece of advice for peers...

“The mind is body”, so you need to take good care of your physical health in order to think more clearly and accomplish more in life. That’s why you should prioritize eating healthy meals, getting regular exercise, and sleeping enough during the night.

Three keys to his academic success

  • The support of my friends and family, who have been there for me in all my endeavors. I wouldn’t be where I am without their aid.
  • Setting aside distractions during lectures and trying to listen with intent. Even if I don’t understand everything during the lectures, I’ll often get a general understanding of the concept which makes it easier to learn and review it later on.
  • Taking personal notes. I find it very effective to word and phrase things in a way that I’ll understand, even if it doesn’t perfectly match the textbook or professor’s description. This way, I can quickly remind myself of something I learned.

Two study tips

  • Use the university resources. From the library to online courses and books, Concordia offers many tools to help you succeed. So make the most of the situation and use these resources, both for your courses and to develop your personal skills.
  • Focus on learning and not on your grade. It’s better to fully understand a small number of things instead of memorizing everything only to forget them down the line. At the end of the day, the things we learn and the skills we develop are what matter, not the grades on our transcripts.

Sobhan's next big goal

To graduate and give back to my friends, family, and community.
