Persian Classical music with Hamid Motebassem and Mahdieh Mohammadkhani. Based on the poems of Nizami Ganjavi

A remarkable instrumentalist who learnt from the great masters, but also a prolific composer, Hamid Motebassem is one of the key figures in the revival of Iranian music, as well as the composer of several musical pieces set to great Persian poems. The most recent, Tar-o-Pood, is performed at this concert and is based on the legend of ‘Khosrow and Shirin’ by the great poet Nezami Gandjavi (twelfth century). Motebassam and his ensemble take us on a journey to the heart of this tale, by subtly setting Nezami’s verses to music.

Hamid Motebassem: setar, composition

Mahdieh Mohammadkhani: vocals

Samira Golbaz: setar

Bahar Modiri: gheyjak

Arsalan Alizadeh: barbat

Behnam Masoumi: tombak
