About the department

Home to a dynamic community of faculty, staff, students and alumni, we bridge the natural and social sciences to take on such urgent issues as climate change, urban densification, loss of biodiversity and more.

Our values

Here are just three great reasons to study in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment...

We understand the value of getting your hands dirty.

All the knowlege in the world won't get you far without practical skills to back it up. That's why we offer skill-based programs that focus on teaching hands-on techniques and building practical skills in such areas as cartography, computer design, geographic information systems and field work.

We believe in the importance of working together.

Our multidisciplinary approach to teaching and research not only enables students to connect with related departments and people who share similar interests and goals; but it also promotes a greater sense of collaboration, trust and cooperation both within our department and across the Concordia community.

We put our students first.

As dedicated researchers, educators and staff  we understand that being accessible for – and engaging with – our students is key to helping them become the problem-solvers, innovators and leaders of tomorrow. That's why our student societies are among the most vibrant on campus and play a significant role in enriching the intellectual and social fabric of our department.
