Academics at the Institute go beyond traditional coursework, and learning encompasses internships and experiential learning, including conference participation.
Courses
Courses are offered through the Department of Religions and Cultures. They explore the diversity of Canada's Jewish communities, and their local and transnational networks, using a wide range of historical, literary, musical, phenomenological, and other approaches.
Our courses are open to students of any religious or cultural background.

Internships and experiential learning
The institute offers ongoing opportunities for internships at at both graduate and undergraduate levels. These internships give students a chance to enhance a variety of skill sets:
- research and interview techniques
- cataloguing and archiving
- conference/event planning
- intercultural or inter-generational communications
- community-building and engagement
The internships often overlap with the current research priorities of the Institute and can be tailored to the student's interests or field of study.
- For-credit internships are not paid
- Non-credit interships are paid
Graduate internship with the Canadian Jewish Archives
Exceptional students may have the opportunity to work with the Alex Dworkin Archives. This internship (RELI 6018) is very competitive.
Eligibility
Only students in Judaic studies or related programs may do an internship with us:
- BA in Judaic Studies, honours, major or minor
- MA in Judaic Studies
- PhD in Religion
