"Thanks to the money to pay my fees from Irish Studies, I can focus all my energy on advancing my academic career, without having to worry about where I will find the money for tuition and living expenses. Wow! Just amazing generosity.  And my roommates will keep talking to me!"

"Coming from a working-class farming family, I've always had to work full time in the summers and throughout the school year to afford my tuition, books and rent.  Receiving free tuition has definitely lightened my financial burden, and my stress load."

"I greatly appreciate the free tuition! Thank you for such a generous and helpful donation by covering my fees.  This relieves the large amount of stress I had regarding my educational choices since I am pursuing a double major in Irish Studies and English literature."

"In the past, I've had to put my studies on hold due to financial reasons, but not now thanks to the outstanding support of this school. The Irish Studies tuition remission award completely covered my academic costs, and last summer the school paid for my independent study in Dublin!  It seems almost too good to be true, but it is true because I am experiencing it!  What a generous program!"

"Travelling to Ireland this summer was life-changing. Everything that I had spent the past year learning and reading about was suddenly brought to life in front of me when I landed in Dublin. Telling people about my research and the amazing opportunity I was given has only further illustrated to me how unique this experience is for an undergraduate. Thank you so much for the funding to make this happen!"

"Without the School of Canadian Irish Studies, I would've never been able to travel to Ireland and immerse myself in a Gaeltacht to continue my Irish Gaelic language studies.  I had the time of my life experiencing such a unique culture with some newfound, lifelong friends!"

"I am incredibly grateful for the funded travel that the School of Canadian Irish Studies has granted me.  Field research in Ireland was not only a dream of mine, but a very important step towards my academic goals.  The trip brought me to six different counties in Ireland and was richly rewarding for me.  Travelling to Ireland to research the Magdalene laundries deepened my understanding and has led to my choice to pursue a project on it for my Master's.  It would not have been possible without the School's funding to get me to Ireland."

"This summer has been one of the most magical of my life. Stepping off the plane onto Irish soil for the first time wasn't something I ever imagined I'd have the opportunity to do this early in my life. Thanks to the funding from the School of Irish Studies, my dream of visiting the Emerald Isle and studying the language there came to be. I look forward to continuing my language studies in the second level course this year in hopes of returning to study more in the near future!"

Jessica Poulin

"Viking Dublin may seem like an unlikely subject for a Canadian or Quebec student to successfully undertake.  However, the School of Irish Studies and their field research program made it possible.  Thanks so much for the funding that got me to Ireland for me to explore a different culture, meet new people, and think about exciting possibilities for my future!"

"Going to Ireland was the most memorable and helpful event of my undergraduate degree because I got to see close up what we had spoken of in class discussions. The School is very supportive, not only funding the trip, but also by giving advice and keeping in contact with students while they are abroad. It also helped me to develop research skills and my experience helped me define what I wanted to research for my MA which I am presently completing at Concordia. I encourage all students to take advantage of these funded travelling opportunities which helped me evolve both as a student and as a person!"

Kate Bevan-Baker

"With the aid of travel funding from the School of Canadian Irish Studies, I was able to carry out an extensive two-month research trip to Ireland and Scotland during the summer of 2016. This trip included visits to libraries and archives, private fiddle lessons with renowned fiddlers around Ireland, a presentation at an international conference in Galway that included paper publication, and many sessions in pubs where I met and played with fantastic traditional musicians. Not only was this trip educational, but it was also an enriching social and cultural experience. I am extremely grateful for the funding I received from the School of Canadian Irish Studies at Concordia University and look forward to continuing my studies in the fall."
