Mark Clintberg and Johanne Sloan will discuss the ongoing relevance of pivotal Canadian artist Joyce Wieland, who was also an activist and experimental filmmaker. This conversation will highlight a series of recent artist’s projects that remake, revise, and re-position key Wieland works. The context for this discussion is a special issue of the Journal of Canadian Art History co-edited by Clintberg and Sloan, which features new artwork and scholarship related to Wieland’s work – especially pertaining to questions of nationalism, feminism, queerness, and ecology.

Mark Clintberg is an artist who works in them field of art history. He is an Assistant Professor in the School of Critical and Creative Studies at the Alberta University of the Arts (Calgary).

Johanne Sloan is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Art History at Concordia University.
