Planning an event at Concordia just got easier

Planning an event at Concordia just got a little easier with new resources designed to help students, faculty and staff navigate the event planning process at Concordia with greater confidence and ease.  

Community members can now book free 15- to 30-minute one-on-one guidance sessions with the Hospitality team. Through topic-specific online booking forms, organizers can choose a convenient date and time and indicate the topic they’d like to discuss.

Whether you’re organizing your first event on campus, unsure where to begin or have questions about university requirements, these sessions are designed to provide practical advice tailored to your needs.

Sessions can cover a range of topics, including:

• General event planning questions
• Finding the right space
• Catering options
• Registration needs
• Alcohol on campus 
• Any quick questions you may have about planning an event

Meeting people where they are

“We know event planning can feel overwhelming, particularly for those doing it for the first time. These guidance sessions are designed to provide clarity, answer questions and help community members feel more confident as they navigate the planning process,” says Sarah Dorrell-Caille, director of Hospitality Concordia.

By making Hospitality Concordia more accessible at the beginning of the planning process, Dorrell-Caille hopes the initiative will help reduce barriers and make it easier for the community to bring their events to campus.

The guidance sessions complement Hospitality Concordia’s broader event planning services, giving organizers access to expert guidance as they get started and make decisions throughout the planning process.

New event planning resources

Alongside the new guidance sessions, Hospitality Concordia is also launching a DIY Event Planning Guide for students. A faculty and staff version is currently in development and will be launched in the near future.

Developed in partnership with the Office of Student Life and Engagement, the guide provides essential information, best practices and practical tips to help students plan successful events on campus, from developing an initial idea to navigating the details of event day.
