Twitter is full of academics, writers, thinkers and graduate students sharing their work and engaging with one another.

One of our favourite places online, the LSE Impact Blog, came out with a short, downloadable guide for Using Twitter in university research, teaching, and impact activities. It discusses how to build your following and manage your profile. They have sections on how to use Twitter to maximize the impact of your research project, make the most of Twitter alongside your own blog, and use course accounts with students. It also includes extra resources and links to blog posts and articles on academic blogging and impact. The guide got such great feedback that the blog put out a follow up resource, Your favourite academic tweeters: lists available to browse by subject area, which lists favorite academic tweeters from their readers, broken down into five subject area lists:

Profhacker, a blog about teaching, tech, and productivity on The Chronicle, has some amazing posts about using Twitter in academia. See How to Start Tweeting (and Why You Might Want To). Best Practices for Live-Tweeting Conferences includes resources from scholars in different fields, and Presenting for Twitter at Conferences explains that when audience members tweet about your presentation, “there’s also value to you as the presenter–feedback, a chance for extended conversations, and even the potential for finding collaborators, publishers, or new venues to share and grow your ideas.” Also check out 101 Twitter Accounts Every PhD Should Follow.
