Everyone loves a challenge  — and that’s why Shuffle challenge gifts make such a difference to Concordia students.

The Shuffle is the university’s annual 6.5-km walk from Sir George Williams Campus to Loyola Campus. It raises funds for scholarships and bursaries — and brings the Concordia community together for a fun-filled afternoon.

Challenge gifts — pledged by individuals or organizations — make Shufflers' efforts go even further. By offering a dollar amount per Shuffler or an incremental amount based on funds raised, challenge gifts encourage colleagues and friends to participate in the Shuffle or to strive to raise even more for an important cause.

More than 20 Concordians have already pledged their challenge gifts this year.

One of them is Bram Freedman, vice-president of Development and External Relations.

“I’m proud to be part of a community that comes together to encourage our students. I challenge the members of my team to do their very best to support deserving students through the Shuffle,” he says, having pledged $2 per Shuffler from the Advancement and Alumni Relations and External Relations and Secretary-General sectors.

To further motivate his team, Brad Tucker, associate vice-president, Enrolment and Student Services, has made a three-tiered challenge gift.

Tucker has pledged $2 for each Shuffler in his unit who collects up to $25 in sponsorship, $5 per Shuffler who collects between $25 and $100 and $20 for each Shuffler who collects over $100 in sponsorships.

“Anyone can make a challenge gift. Directors, managers, faculty or staff members at any level have the power to make Shuffle gifts go further,” says Derek Linetsky, Development Officer, Community Programs.

Organized by Advancement and Alumni Relations and volunteers, the Shuffle kicks off at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 27, and culminates with food and prizes at the President’s Picnic. Walk the walk: Register today and start collecting pledges.
