Students living in residences must move out by March 22

Dear students living in Concordia’s residences,

In these unprecedented times as in any other, Concordia’s priority is supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of the members of its community.

In light of the current health emergency, and in particular, for the safety of those students living in residence for whom social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, all students are required to move out of residence by end of the day, Sunday, March 22, 2020.

You will be issued a refund of lease and meal plan costs equal to the number of residual days left between your departure date and the end of your lease.

Please let us know of your leaving date (if you have not already) by filling out this form: I ALREADY LEFT OR PLAN TO LEAVE RESIDENCE

Exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis

We understand that there may be exceptional circumstances that prevent you from leaving by the March 22 deadline or at all. If that is the case for you, please send an email to residenceinfo@concordia.ca. Your case will be reviewed and you will be notified of the university’s decision as soon as possible.

Winter 2020 term can be completed remotely

We want to emphasize that leaving residence will not affect students’ ability to complete their term. As a reminder, Concordia is moving to online course delivery and/or alternative assessment modes beginning as of the week of March 23. In addition, exams will not be done in person. Accommodations will be made for those students who wish to complete the semester from home in another province or country.

Mandatory health and safety rules apply

In the lead-up to departure, students are expected to act responsibly in adhering to a few rules for their health and safety.

  • No gatherings of students in the residence building will be permitted. Large common residence spaces will remain closed.
  • Social distancing practices, including keeping a minimum distance of 1 meter between people, must be respected.
  • Anyone who thinks they may have been exposed to, or is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, should call the duty phone and notify us right away.
  • Students must complete the residence check-out procedures if they wish to receive a reimbursement.

This has be a difficult time for everyone. Residence life has always prioritized supporting our students and creating a welcoming and, most importantly, a safe community. Sometimes that means modifying, and responding to issues to ensure the safety of our community members.

We wish you all safe travels home, and we will remain available to follow-up questions in the coming weeks.
